should my landlord have to pay for my personal belongings that got damaged due to a leak in the house?
we have had a leak in our livingroom floor for a few days now... the leak has also gone into our garage and all our stuff has been sitting in water for a 3 days now!! the landlord broke through the cement in the garage with a jack hammer, and didnt think to cover anything in the garage so now theres a thick coat of "dust" on all my stuff!! golf clubs, glass bookcase, furniture, workout equipment... and i had to move a bookcase from inside the house where the leak was... and we have been without hot water all day(he had to moved the water heater to get to where he "thought" the leak was coming from), and will be until this is fixed which he says it will take a couple more days.... should he have to pay for my damaged furniture??? or discount our rent??? should his homeowners insurance cover that kind of stuff???
No, his insurance does not cover your stuff. That is what you have renters insurance for.
Good luck convincing your insuarance company that dust = damage.
